HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

I wish you time spent finding your flow.

The student of mine who made this drawing came to me looking for a place to learn drawing skill.  She didn’t say it at the time but I think she also came looking for a safe place where she could simply be in the sensation of looking and recording. We like the idea that we already know what something is supposed to look like – what it is supposed to be. But when we get to actually looking – closely – we see so much more.

Georgia O’Keefe said, “Nobody sees a flower – really – it is so small it takes time – and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time.”

This woman absolutely loves feathers.  They have a lot of meaning for her.  We started with foundation skills, which she grabbed up with hungry enthusiasm.  Then we got to her delight.  For a few hours every week she has allowed herself the time and space to disappear into her work – to find a flow that is all her own and takes her out of everyday life.  She says that the drawing and the materials, the music, the looking, and the flow all come together to create one of the few places in life where nothing else matters but the moment.

May the holiday season find you with love, health, and peace in your heart, and some time spent in the moment.
